Explain Timber Framing

Timber framing is the age old system of building whereby structures are made using traditional joinery. Also known as post and beam or “heavy timber” construction, timber framing has its own unique language and terminology that craftsmen (also called joiners) use. Mortise and tenon, dovetails, shoulders, pegs etc. interact and work together to hold the structure fast. Incorporating traditional timbers into your home can give it a strong sense of beauty and strength because well made exposed timber framing acts as both an aesthetic focal point and the literal structural bones of your house.
